A classic study of ancient Egyptian beliefs concerning death, resurrection and the afterlife. Drawing heavily on funerary and religious texts including the Book of the Dead, Budge examines Osiris, judgement of the dead, immortality and the religious ideas that shaped Egyptian burial practice.

Although some of Budge's translations and interpretations have been superseded by later Egyptology, his work remains historically influential and continues to be widely read by those interested in ancient Egyptian religion, esoteric history and the development of modern Egyptology.

About the Author: Sir E. A. Wallis Budge (1857-1934) was a British Egyptologist and philologist who served for many years at the British Museum, eventually becoming Keeper of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities. He published extensively on Egyptian language, religion, magic and funerary texts, including his influential editions of The Egyptian Book of the Dead.
