Thai Buddha with Naga Serpent Shrine Miniature
Origin: Thailand
Material: Brass-tone / bronze-tone cast metal
Age: Modern / contemporary
Size: 4cm high
Condition: Good condition with surface patina, darkened recesses, casting marks
A small modern Thai shrine statue showing a seated Buddha figure sheltered by a multi-headed Naga serpent. The Buddha sits in meditation above the coiled body of the serpent, with the Naga rising behind and around the figure in a protective form.
In Thai Buddhist imagery, the Naga is often connected with protection, spiritual power, water, fertility, and guardianship. One well-known Buddhist story tells of the serpent king sheltering the Buddha during meditation, protecting him from heavy rain and storms.
This piece has a compact altar size, making it suitable for a small shrine, meditation space, display cabinet, or collection of Thai religious and folk objects. The brass-tone finish has an aged look, with darker detail in the recessed areas that brings out the serpent scales, lotus-like throne, and seated figure.
