The King and the Lamp gathers Scottish Traveller tales from Duncan Williamson, one of Scotland’s best-known traditional storytellers. Edited and introduced by Linda Williamson, this collection brings together twenty-six stories drawn from oral tradition and recorded sessions for the School of Scottish Studies.
These are fireside tales of talking animals, broonies, selkies, fairies, cunning Jack, kings, giants and long winter-night adventures. Rich in Scottish folklore and Traveller storytelling tradition, this volume is well suited to readers interested in folk tales, oral history, Celtic storytelling, fairy lore and the living transmission of myth and legend.
